Welcome!

I'm Grace Lyons! 

​

I’m a recent graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism, Advertising & Media Studies, with a concentration in Media Studies, and Digital Art and Culture.

 

During my time in college, I discovered a passion for expressing myself creatively. Whether it be through digital art, painting, collaging, knitting, or crocheting, I find solace in the process of creating. I often find inspiration in the world around me, and I’m constantly pushing myself to learn new techniques and explore new mediums.

 

When I’m not indulging in my artistic endeavors, I love to attend concerts and listen to music. I find that music can evoke powerful emotions and create a sense of community among people from all walks of life. Spending time with my loved ones is also a priority for me. Whether it be exploring new places or simply staying in and playing board games, I cherish every moment spent with them.

 

Lastly, I’m an avid reader, and I enjoy learning about different cultures, historical events, and personal development. I believe that books have the power to change lives, and I try to make time for reading every day.

I am currently the Communications Specialist for the Division of Student Affairs at UW - Milwaukee. 

Experience

UWM Union Marketing Services Copywriting and Social Media Lead

  • Leader of the copywriting and social media student team. 

  • Created promotional and engaging copy for various marketing and advertising objectives in digital and print.

  • Co-managed Student Union social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, scheduled content posts, and tracked performance.

  • Certified in Google Analytics.

  • Researched and curated content for a weekly student e-newsletter, Student News & Stuff,  to advertise community-wide events and information, with an audience of over 20,000 students.

  • Wrote weekly copy for the UWM Student Union Renovation Project website, emails, and social media posts.

  • Created photos and short-form videos for social media platforms.

  • Received awards such as Groundbreaker, for innovative ideas, and Best Customer Service.

Digital Arts & Culture Student Council Officer

  • The Digital Arts and Culture Student Council is a pioneering group of students in the DAC program. DAC prides itself on being a program for students by students.

  • We work on community outreach and program advertising, event planning, and social media management.

  • Designed event posters and social media posts.

Senior Honors Project: Femininity in the Media

  • A substantial independent portfolio project in the visual arts.

  • All pieces created in response to Feminist and Media theory.

  • Developed artistic skills in the Adobe Suite and physical mediums like acrylic painting and drawing, as well as skills like self-accountability, time management, and critical thinking.

  • Worked one on one with a distinguished faculty advisor, Marc Tasman.
